The Trials and Tribulations.
The sport of motor racing brings with it many highs and lows, trials and tribulations. The World Championships run 2 weeks ago certainly put the Real Thing Racing team to the test.
Working towards the event for over 12 months, the team had toiled hard in completing the safety capsule, manufacturing components associated with the new capsule, while undergoing A significant engine development program.
Testing, prior to the World Championships was going to plan, with the team gradually creeping up to top speed. Unfortunately, in the week leading up to the championships the boat experienced gearbox failure whilst testing.
While the replacement box was fitted, routine engine checks revealed that the over rev associated with the failure (albeit very brief) had caused valve train damage which would require complete Replacement.
With time against us, parts were airfreighted from all over the country and the task of rebuilding the damage began.
A few long days and sleepless nights followed , racing against the clock the engine was repaired and refitted to the boat. Heading straight to Gol Gol in NSW for the event, leaving Adelaide in the early hours on Saturday morning.
"We've put in the big ones over a few days, I can't thank Mitch from MK Racing Performance Specialties enough. He basically shut his workshop down to get us here, all in all it was a huge effort from him and my guys" said Bruce
Hitting the water on Sunday for a warm up and hot laps, all was going well, traveling down the front straight, the boat looked to handle well and producing excellent speed, a warning on the Motec dash alerted Bruce to a momentary drop on oil pressure. Upon seeing the indicator, Bruce immediately shut the engine down, with closer inspection back in the pits revealing the the oil pump had lost some efficiency, not scavenging from the engine properly. Unfortunately with that our World Championships were done.
"It's pretty frustrating but that's motor racing. We'll come back from this in the best possible way. Congratulations to Troy and the "Madness" team for a well earned victory."
